Tourists enjoy kayaking on Ha Long Bay |
Since 2017, Ha Long Bay Management Board has installed microwave data transmission system and upgraded camera system at its headquarter, wharfs, and tourist sites to enhance surveillance and ensure social order and security as well as tourists’ safety. In addition, the microwave system is also piloted at Tuan Chau, Thien Cung Cave, Bai Tho Mountain… in order to provide free wifi service to tourists and ensure data transmission line to supervisors.
Ha Long Bay Management Board also upgraded GPS system on all boats operating on the bay, thus tracing boats’ routes, tourist picking up and dropping off, knowing the number of tourists on board, and searching and rescuing.

In parallel with information and technological application in the managerial works, the preservation and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural values are also paid concern by local authority. Since early 2019, Ha Long Bay Management Board implemented the project of promoting typical cultural values of fishing villages on Ha Long Bay with a total capital of nearly 1.5 billion VND. As a result, typical cultural features of fishermen’s life and fishing villages have been restored, forming unique tourism products.
Environmental protection on Ha Long Bay is also given top priority. Apart from collecting waste on the bay and surrounding areas, Ha Long Bay Management Board has enhanced propaganda activities and encouraged tourists and businesses to limit the use of plastic bottles and linon bags during their trip to the bay. Tourists are also required to leave single-use plastic things onshore and sign commitment to protect the bay’s environment before starting their trip. Travel agencies doing business on the bay took initiative in replacing plastic cups, linon bags, plastic straws… with those made from paper.
Notably, Ha Long Bay Management Board in coordination with Ha Long municipal authority to work with consulting firms to make aquaculture cultivation planning outside the core area of Ha Long Bay with an area of 356 ha.
